    AVAILABLE POSITION                         Fire Fighter/Paramedic

    The City of East Lansing is recruiting for the position of Fire Fighter/Paramedic to join our professional fire department team.  This skilled position responds under emergency conditions to protect life, property, and the environment from fire and the release of hazardous and toxic materials; as well as providing rescue and emergency medical services at an advanced level to save and protect life.  Participates in classroom, self study, and field training programs to develop and maintain required skills and proficiencies.   Participates in the general maintenance and custodial care of facilities, grounds, apparatus, tools and equipment. 

    PAY RATE      Annual base salary - $46,456.58. 

    Overtime is compensated at a rate of time and one-half; premium pay includes a meal

    allowance and holiday pay. Benefits include a retirement program, sick leave, vacation, and

    longevity pay.  All personal protective equipment and uniforms are furnished by the City.

    WORK SCHEDULE       The work schedule consists of 24 hours on duty, 48 hours off duty, with an average work week of 50.4 hours. The 24 hour shifts begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 7:30 a.m. the following day, includes weekends and holidays. Must be willing to move/live within a 25 mile radius of the East Lansing City limits. 


    Certification as a State of Michigan Advanced Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic or currently enrolled student graduating and licensed within three months of employment.   

    Must become ACLS certified within one year of date of hire; must attend ACLS class as scheduled

    by the EMS Coordinator.

    Certification at State Firefighter Level II at time of appointment.

    Certified at Hazardous Materials-Operations Level at time of appointment.

    Combination of college and/or work experience preferred.

    Possession of a valid Michigan Driver’s License, with no restrictions or suspensions.

    Physically and medically qualified to fulfill the duties of the position as determined by a medical

    examination/drug screen performed by a physician of the City’s choice.
